Are You Ready For Hunting Season?

Fall is coming to most areas, we are wet, humid and still in the 90's. But my thoughts turn to hunting season. We usually go up to Missouri and if we don't make it in time we are lucky enough to have someone hunt for us. Hunting for me equals deer meat. Bring on the venison! I have a freezer devoted to it. I cut myself short on ground deer last year, a mistake I won't make again. Deer meat, once you get used to it, makes ground beef inferior. Venison is cheaper also, even if you do not process it yourself. If we lived up north further we would probably be enjoying more wild fowl, pork and beef.

No matter what you use to hunt, it's time to make sure you have all of your equipment ready. Is everything clean and in good working order? Does your gear smell like last seasons kill? Do you have enough ammo? Are you going to use the same processing crew or do it yourself? If you are doing it yourself is everything sharp, and clean? Do you have room cleared in the freezer and/or canning jars ready?
Are you going with someone inexperienced? Are you sure they won't shoot you by mistake?
Hunting season is the time to greatly increase your food supply after harvest. Stay safe, and let me know how it goes.
